Client Access Licenses: user, device and RDS
Every user or device that accesses Windows Server needs a CAL. User CALs cover one person on any devices, which suits staff with a laptop and phone. Device CALs cover one shared device for any number of users. Remote Desktop users also need an RDS CAL on top.
Which CAL is cheaper for you?
Buy User CALs when people use several devices each, and Device CALs when several people share one device. Remote Desktop and RemoteApp users need an RDS CAL in addition to a Windows Server CAL.
| CAL | Licenses | Covers | Best for |
